Self Trust isn't about CONTROL

We’re taught to value control early in life.

Be good. Be smart. Be composed.
Don’t feel too much. Don’t want too much.
Just do what’s expected of you — and do it well.

But here’s the hard truth:
When we’re trained to perform, we’re not taught to trust ourselves.
And for so many of us, control becomes the replacement for a kind of inner safety we never learned how to build.


What Control Looks Like

Control often starts as protection. It shows up in people who had to grow up fast, stay small, or prove their worth to feel safe in relationships or environments.

It can look like:

  • Overthinking every decision

  • Avoiding vulnerability at all costs

  • Needing certainty before making a move

  • Feeling responsible for everything (and everyone)

  • Staying “busy” to avoid slowing down and feeling

Control isn’t the villain — it’s the armor.
But that armor eventually becomes a cage.


The Energy of Self-Trust

Self-trust is a completely different rhythm.

It doesn’t demand perfection. It invites presence.
It says: “I may not know how this will unfold, but I trust myself to move through it.”

It feels like:

  • Listening to your gut (not second-guessing it)

  • Respecting your “no” without needing to justify it

  • Resting without guilt

  • Letting your body lead — not just your mind

  • Making aligned choices even when they’re not the “smart” ones

Self-trust is what control tries to be.
But instead of being fueled by fear, it’s rooted in relationship — with yourself.


Control Is for Survival. Self-Trust Is for Healing.

Let’s name this with love:

  • Control helped you survive childhood, pressure, trauma, uncertainty.

  • It helped you adapt in places where your sensitivity or boundaries weren’t welcome.

  • It gave you a sense of order in a world that often felt unpredictable.

But you’re not surviving anymore.
You’re evolving.

And now, you get to ask a new question:

What if I stopped gripping so tightly… and started listening more deeply?


How to Rebuild Self-Trust (Slowly, Softly)

Self-trust isn’t something you “achieve.”
It’s a relationship you rebuild — breath by breath, choice by choice.

Try starting with:

  • Asking yourself: What am I feeling in my body right now?

  • Honoring one small yes or no, even if it makes no sense to anyone else

  • Pausing before reacting — and noticing what your truth wants to say

  • Choosing softness over self-pressure

  • Letting things be good enough, instead of perfect

You don’t have to be the most composed version of yourself.
You get to be the most connected one.

And that is the beginning of everything.
