๐ Love Letters | Issue 18: When Dreaming Feels Scary

Have you noticed that the moment you start imagining what you really wantโฆ fear shows up? That tightening in your chest, the thought that whispers, โWho do you think you are?โ
That fear isnโt a sign that youโre doing something wrong. Itโs your nervous system trying to protect you. Itโs learned from past experiences that wanting too much can feel unsafe. But now, you have the chance to meet that fear with presence, patience, and care โ and slowly teach yourself that itโs safe to dream.
Practice: Welcoming Fear While Dreaming
-
Notice it. When fear arises as you visualize your dreams, gently name it: โI feel scared right now.โ
-
Ground yourself. Take a deep breath, feel your feet on the floor, soften your shoulders. Let your body know: this moment is safe. Maybe that is wrapping up in a blanket. Maybe that is putting hand to heart. Maybe that is humming. (All of these are based in neuroscience.)
-
Separate past from present. Remind yourself: โThis fear comes from old experiences. Right now, Iโm imagining โ Iโm not in danger.โ
-
Return gently to your vision. You donโt have to hold the whole dream at once. Touch it for a few moments, then rest. Over time, your nervous system learns safety.
-
Affirm self-trust. Say to yourself: I can handle growth. I am safe to expand.
โจ Journaling prompts for this week:
-
When does fear show up as I imagine what I want?
-
How does my body respond to that fear?
-
What small act can I take this week to honor my dreams while staying grounded?

So this is a love letter to the part of you that feels small, uncertain, or hesitant when facing big dreams. Each time you meet fear with calm attention, you are teaching your nervous system and your heart that itโs safe to expand. You are learning to hold your dreams and your fear at the same time โ and in that space, real growth happens.
