đź’Ś Love Letters | Issue 22: Staying With Yourself When Your Body Wants to Run

Dear Lovely,
If last week we named scarcity cues — the alarms that pull us into urgency, comparison, and self-protection — then this week is about what happens inside you in those moments.
Because the real work isn’t just noticing what triggers you.
It’s learning how to stay with yourself once you’ve noticed.
Not by pushing through.
Not by forcing calm.
Not by telling yourself to “just be grateful.”
But by creating an inner environment that is spacious enough to hold whatever rises.
This is where a skill I teach often in session becomes a lifeline:
SITE.
A four-part check-in that brings you back to your body, your breath, and yourself.
🌿 S • Sensations
Before you think your way out of anything — feel.
Where is your breath?
Is your heart fast or steady?
Jaw tight? Shoulders lifted? Belly fluttering?
Your nervous system speaks through sensation long before your mind interprets it.
Listening is an act of self-respect.
🌿 I • Images
Close your eyes for a moment.
What appears behind them? A memory? A flash?
Sometimes the subconscious shows us what the conscious mind avoids.
No need to analyze — just notice.
Awareness loosens the grip.
🌿 T • Thoughts
Now the mind.
What story is present?
What meaning is being made?
What belief rises first — “I’m not safe,” “I’m failing,” “I don’t matter”?
Thoughts aren’t the truth.
They are an echo of history trying to protect you.
Naming them softens their authority.
🌿 E • Emotions
And beneath it all — what feeling lives here?
Sadness? Anger? Tenderness? Exhaustion?
Sometimes the emotion is simple.
Sometimes it’s layered.
You don’t have to fix it — just let it be seen.
Because what we finally face, we no longer have to carry alone.
🧡 A Practice for This Week
When you notice you’re tightening, shutting down, or spiraling into old patterns:
Pause.
Place a hand on your heart or belly.
Move gently through SITE.
Sensations — Where does my body speak?
Images — What arises in the mind’s eye?
Thoughts — What story is here?
Emotions — What is true under the surface?
Not to change anything.
Not to perform wellness.
But to stay.
To remain with yourself when you’re used to abandoning yourself.
This is how we heal — not through force, but through presence.
🪞 Reflection for You
-
What physical sensation shows up most when you’re activated?
-
Which SITE category is hardest for you to sit with?
-
Where do you tend to leave yourself — thoughts, emotions, or the body?
-
What would it feel like to remain instead of run?
So this is a love letter to the woman who is trying to stay present with herself. To the woman who feels the pull to shut down but wants to remain open. To the woman who has done so much work already — and still meets the human edges of her nervous system with tenderness and truth. To the woman who knows she’s here to grow, not to hustle for worth. If that’s you — this is for you.
You deserve to be someone you can come home to.
And if no one ever taught you how — that’s okay. You’re learning now.
With love and gentle strength,
Em

P.S. If you want to take this practice even deeper, I created a free mini-course called Own Your Life. Inside, you’ll explore:
-
How to tell the difference between self-esteem and self-worth
-
What true power really is — and how to claim it
-
How to ride the wave of your emotions instead of getting swept away
It’s designed to help you feel steady, empowered, and fully yourself. You can start for free here:
